Time for a teaser (or three!)

May 27, 2009

Thanks to the power of Facebook, I’m able to share some of the non-pros taken by my family & friends. Our wedding went really well, despite a couple of hiccups. I’ll tell y’all about that later.

This is the bridal party making the grand entrance to the limos. It was really funny to see cars slowing down and staring at us! πŸ™‚

Here’s the infamous cake pull. Check out our AWESOME bouquets!!

We’re still in Orlando with Mickey & Minnie. Despite the constant afternoon rain, we are having a great time! I’ll post more about the wedding after the honeymoon!! πŸ™‚

Everything is moving so fast!

May 18, 2009

I remember thinking over a year ago when Mr. Ballet Flat slipped this ring on my finger that our wedding couldn’t come soon enough! I remember gazing at countdown that read over 400 days, then 200 days, then, oh my gosh, 99 days! A few days ago, the countdown read 9 days! Wow…where did the time go?

time flies

When I started writing for Weddingbee, I remember reading recaps and thinking, my time for these will NEVER come. I’m just planning forever, it seems. However, I think it’s time for me to eat my words.

Everything is THIS WEEK! The bachelorette party, the rehearsal dinner, the wedding..it’s ALL about to happen!

It hasn’t hit me hard yet. I feel so relaxed about it all, which is strange.

There are things I should be panicking about. Our programs aren’t finished (my procrastination), my illness turned into a sinus infection that is taking its good time healing and it’s possible that an (extra-/sub-/who knows what it will be) tropical system will develop (there goes my weather geek side) and pour rain down on our big day and Disney World road trip! Geez….and the packing, woo! I hate packing!

However, I like to think that no matter what, it’s gonna be a lot of fun and we will finally be MARRIED!

Has time flown for you in your planning? If you are close to the big day, has it really hit yet that you are about to become married? πŸ™‚

Registry Swag!

May 14, 2009

I would like to admit that registries give me a headache. Mr. Ballet Flat and I registered a few months ago for the basics: flatware, blender, crockpot, As Seen on TV detox foot pads. You get the idea. There was another temptation that was unexpected: FREE stuff!!

Yes, free stuff. You can get stuff for registering a good chunkΒ  of merchandise on one brand and even more stuff for people actually purchasing you all of those things. It was tempting to go in there as Jo Blo and Anna Banana and just register for obscene things for free stuff, but we didn’t. (Yes, I know that’s completely wrong to do…it was just a funny, innocent thought!)

This past weekend, however, as Mr. BF and I were adding a couple more registry items (we realized we need curtains!), Target gave us a book with mainly advertisements for the expensive stuff that they want you to register for. Pfft….I try to avoid such books because it tempts me to want things that we really do not need.

I flipped through it, however, because Mr. BF was clearance shopping for electronics (ah fun!) and I am currently trying to save souvenir money for Mickey instead. I noticed a bookmark in the middle of it and what was it? None other than a $20 coupon code for Shutterfly! Wow, and we didn’t have to register for $500 worth of Mikasa? SWEET! (No offense to you Mikasa lovers. I’m just too klutzy for breakables!)

I don’t know why I was so excited about this, but I love free stuff! In fact, I get all giddy over free samples on the Internet. Simply because it’s free!

Have you gotten all giddy over the perks of registering?

There are reasons not to procrastinate!!

May 12, 2009

While 95% of the planning is done, I still have a few things left to do. I felt like those are manageable to take care of in the time we have left until the big day. So, I thought no big deal.

That is,Β  until a little surprise arrived on Sunday.

Yep, I have a nice case of a cold. To note, I hardly EVER get sick. Maybe once every two years and when I do, I get REALLY sick. So, I’m being extra cautious in making sure I get over this really quickly. I basically raided Target with my sniffly, sneezy self and bought the basics (in my experience, this will kick a cold’s booty in a couple of days!).

  1. Vitamin C pills
  2. Tylenol Cold
  3. Mucinex
  4. Kleenex (with lotion)
  5. Chloraseptic
  6. Popsicles, OJ and Gatorade

I will admit, yesterday was the worst with the sore throat and the whole feeling out of it bit. Now, I’m still sniffly, sneezy but minus the sore throat and I do feel like I’m all here. I’m assuming my cocktail of the basics is helping right now, but I can’t ever be too sure. So, I’m still eating Vitamin C pills like candy and religiously taking my meds.

I will say right now I’m slapping myself for putting off a few projects that I should have done last week. Mainly, getting the marriage license. :\

Are you worried about getting sick before your big day?

A little help from the PoPo!

May 4, 2009

I know as I have been planning our wedding, I’ve been thinking of some ideas that make travelling for our guests easier. I made a map to help guests find the ceremony venue, and then I thought, well, I can include a map to get to the reception as well at the church. Then, as I was driving the interstate into the city one Saturday, and it hit me…TRAFFIC!

I totally forgot that the interstate is having some construction done, thus the reason for the traffic. It took me almost 45 minutes for me to get from Point A to Point B, which usually takes me 20 minutes. I immediately thought of our wedding. This was about the same time as the wedding would take place, and I really didn’t want our guests to deal with traffic! Especially the out of towners, who do not know some alternate routes to take to get there.

So, I called my parish’s sheriff office to talk to a deputy about obtaining a police escort. (Louisiana is special..parish = county.) The guy was very friendly and told us that two deputy’s would be there at the end of our ceremony to escort all of our guests to the reception site (about a 25 minute drive away). Yes, there is a cost: $200. However, I thought, if our guests miss a half hour of our reception, that would equate to a greater monetary loss, not to mention, traffic can make people very irritable, and I really do not want that for our guests! So, to us, the convenience is well worth it! Plus, I think everyone will feel super important with police bringing them to our reception!

Have you considered police escorts for your wedding guests to get to your reception venue?

April 27, 2009

Wow! Can you believe it’s almost MAY? I remember March 2008 so vividly. Ever since my engagement ring was placed on my finger, Mr. BF and I have been planning for our big day to happen!

This past weekend, I met my amazing photographer, Amanda Meyer,Β  at City Park in New Orleans, where we took my bridal pictures.Β  This made me thankful for our indoor wedding, because I will not need to dodge large caterpillars, nor will I need to pick out random leaves out of my crinoline.

I do need to mention that I had a snag that morning. I tore my right contact lens with NO extras at my parents’Β  home, so I decided that I would just take the bridals without glasses, trying my best to focus on the camera. I’m pretty blind without my contacts, so this made for an interesting day. I spent the day (except for the picture taking) in my glasses. I usually wouldn’t care, but because I got those little nose marks from the pads on my glasses, I would constantly have to reblend my make-up in that area to make sure it wasn’t really noticable.

I had my hair/makeup trials done that morning by Get Polished, and ladies, let me tell you that airbrush make-up is worth every penny. I had it applied at 11am Saturday morning and late that night, it was still mostly on! Amazing for my oily face! πŸ™‚

Here’s my face with the wedding make-up and my curly hair-do.

Not sure if you can really see here, but my eyeshadow is fairly smokey, and I have false eyelashes on. New experience right there. They felt weird for about 30 minutes, then I got used to those little enhancements!

Oh false eyelashes, how I adore thee. I’m a natural dirty blonde, so by nature, I have very little eyelashes. Mr. BF, however, has the best eyelashes ever. I hope our future kids get his eyelashes….seriously!

You can also see a side view of the hair. This picture made me realize just how much I need to get my hair re-highlighted. πŸ™‚

After my primping, I went to Clinique to get some retouch lip color that the make-up artist used on me. I know I wanted to eat lunch, so I’d need to re-apply. As an added bonus, I think I might like the lip color for everyday use. It’s a little bit of color, but it’s not too bold for me. Just in case you wanted to know, I’m wearing “Baby Baby” in their Buttershine lipstick line.

After getting weird stares at the mall, ( I can’t imagine why πŸ˜‰ ) I went to my florist to get a bouquet she made for the bridals. How GORGEOUS is this? My actual bouquet will be a little bigger with coral roses instead of pink.

This day became one of those crazy moments where it really sunk in. I am about to be a bride! πŸ™‚

When did it hit you that you are/were about to be a bride?

Oh Mickey, you’re so fine!

No, I’m not cheating on Mr. Ballet Flat. I promise! πŸ™‚

I’m just extremely excited about our honeymoon to Orlando, FL. Last time I went to Disney World, I teared up on the ferry when I saw Cinderella’s Castle. Yes, I’m a Disney FREAK! I’m sure I’ll bawl again behind my obnoxiously huge sunglasses.

Disney World is not one of those honeymoons where you just relax all day. Disney World involves serious walking (up to 5+ miles a day), pretty good strategy and the fun part, being a kid all over again! We wouldn’t have it any other way! πŸ™‚

I’ve been avidly researching Disney World tips, tricks and strategies to get the most out of our trip. One of the best resources I’ve come across is a book called “The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World”.

This book reviews all of the restaurants on Disney property, gives you an idea of what rides are usually most crowded (i.e. Go early, go during parades or use the FASTPASS), shows you ways to stay on budget (Wahoo!) and so so much more!

I also have gone to Disney forums on the Internet. One of my favorites is DIS Boards. I really like reading about people’s trips (with their personal tips), and being a foodie, I found a board dedicated to posting Disney food pictures. This gave me a better idea of what restaurants would be more Mr. BF and I’s style. There are also members who post about what you should bring to Disney to be better prepared for the walk, which is SUPER helpful.

I will admit, I am buying a few new things for Disney World. First, a new purse. I usually carry an over the shoulder bag, but for Disney, I really don’t want to worry about holding a purse all day.Β  I’m not buying a fanny pack (don’t worry!), like I once wore to Disney when I was a little kid (I wanted to be like Momma BF!), but I found a cute, stylish little purse that will serve me well. I purchased my very first Vera Bradley purse, which goes across the shoulder. I love the colors in this designer’s fabrics, but my usual problem is that they are FAR too pricey for me to justify purchasing one. However, I lucked out. Vera Bradley was retiring a few colors and I happened to fall in love with Peacock (it has teal in it, after all). The great thing about purchasing a retired bag is that they are on MASSIVE clearance. What should have been $45 is now $16, and I found an online code for 20% off as well!! SCORE!

Another thing I was worried about is that I love Splash Mountain and similar water rides. I know in that case I don’t want to wear soggy tennis shoes, so I read that Crocs flip flops are the way to go, sometimes even more comfy than tennis shoes. So, I’m definitely breaking these bad boys in for the walk. And they are cute Crocs to boot!

And of course, what’s a honeymooning Disney girl to do without her ears? Yes, I’m a total geek, but I’m buying these when we get to Disney! I’m hoping Mr. BF will follow suit and wear the groom ears!Β  An added bonus? Usually Cast Members (what Disney employees are called) give you freebies at restaurants when they see these ears, and free stuff ROCKS!

Have you made any purchases just for your honeymoon trip?
